Make-up wise, she tends to lean towards a more natural look, not going over the top with heavy makeups and eye shadow colors.

Caroline Forbes is a total perfectionist, involved in as many things as possible: cheer captain, Miss Mystic Falls, community service, and straight A student. She has a tendency to gravitate towards being a mean girl, incredibly petty and jealous. Her family descends from one of the original four families that founded Mystic Falls, Virginia. Her father left when she was young, leaving her with her mother. It put a strain on their relationship, her mother only adding to her need to be the best at everything. She considers Bonnie and Elena to be her two best friends, though they also tend to then be focal points of her jealousy, especially when Elena meets Stefan and wins his attention before Caroline even has a chance to attempt to catch his eye. It all feeds her feelings of only being second best, never good enough to win someone’s affections because of who she is rather than convenience.
Elena: You’re being ridiculous.
Caroline: And insecure and stupid. But that doesn't change the fact that Matt’s always gonna be in love with you and I’m always gonna be the back-up.
Elena: You’re not the back up.
Caroline: Yes I’m. I’m Matt’s Elena back up; I’m your Bonnie back up.
Elena: Now it’s about me and Bonnie?
Caroline: You don’t get it. Why would you? You’re everyone’s first choice.
She always seems to have a constant running undercurrent of insecurity, feeding into every decision and action. It fuels her shallowness, relying on backhanded compliments and sometimes being outright cruel. She has the ability to filter it depending on the situation. She also has a tendency to judge a book by it’s cover, needing to also have the appearance of the perfect life from the outside looking in - perfect clothes, perfect boyfriend, perfect hair, elevated social status. She shows more concern about earning the title of Miss Mystic Falls rather than having a stable relationship with her mother. Damon was able to take advantage of her low self-esteem, using her as his own personal blood bag. He constantly compelled her to forget certain things and do others - simply a means to an end. Caroline’s strength shines through when she ends it with him. She seems to have more self-worth, only able to remember what he had allowed her to. She knew she deserved better than him.
She moves on to dating Matt, who is pretty much everything she’s not. It brings out a side of her that had been buried, sweeter and kinder. She truly loves him, opening up to him and pushing herself to start becoming a better person.
Caroline: I don’t wanna be. I - I mean, I wanna be deep. I wanna be, like, the abyss deep.
Matt: No offense, Cara, but deep’s not really your scene.
Caroline: That’s true. I’m shallow. I am worse than shallow. I’m a kiddie pool.
She was doing well, getting on the right track and turning around some of her more negative personality traits before she was killed by Katherine in the hospital. Her death triggers her shift over to becoming a vampire. Through her transformation, her strongest personality traits become amplified - for better or worse. She becomes even more confident and self-aware, knowing what she wants and more sure of herself. It seems to cancel out some of her earlier needs for validation and recognition for her actions. She willingly goes to help Elena with Katherine and confronts Damon about what she now remembers now that things she'd been compelled to forget have been unlocked, only pushing her towards bringing out her inner strength, making sure she will never be used like that again.
Her tongue is still sharp, but it doesn't carry the same venom as before. She doesn't use her words to hurt others, but she also doesn't let people walk all over her.
Caroline to Stephan: "Now I'm an insecure, neurotic control freak... on crack?"
While the vampirism amplifies some of her good traits, it brings out some other less desirable ones as well. She still has her own insecurities and desire to be in control of everything, though she uses the latter to her advantage. After her transformation, she took a life when she experienced blood lust for the first time. There was no one there to help her with it, turning to Stefan afterwards for help. He becomes a calming point for her, helping her control her hunger and learn to feed on animals. She accepts what she is, for better or for worse, even though it costs her her relationship with Matt when she saves him, outing herself as a vampire because she couldn't let him die.
Despite her insecurities and fears, she never loses her conviction. She perseveres no matter how much seems to happen to her, whether it’s being kidnapped or put down. She maintains a semblance of an upbeat disposition, always trying to find a positive in a situation while still being able to think quickly on her feet. Sometimes her attempts to find the positives can lead to word-vomiting and her focusing on smaller more insignificant pieces of something rather than the larger picture.
While she does her best to maintain a positive outlook on things, she’s still subject to mood swings, made more extreme by the heightened traits. She is capable of having monumental melt downs and fits of rage. It sometimes tends to be made worse depending on how she feels about the recipient of her emotional outburst. She is loyal to a fault, hurt when her loyalty is not returned.
Her relationship with Tyler develops after her transformation, sympathizing with what he’s going through when he discovers he is a werewolf. She does what she can to help him so he doesn’t experience the same thing she did when she turned, even though his bite could kill her.
Caroline to Tyler: "I was alone when I turned. I had no control over my body or my urges and I killed somebody. I don't want that to happen to you. I don't want you to be alone."
She continues to grow after starting college, working more and more on developing her more positive traits and becoming even more selfless, especially when it comes to Stefan and Elena. She still has a lot of faults, but she is a positive ray of sunshine in sometimes the bleakest of situations. She never loses hope, firmly believing that there’s always another way. She may be highly emotional at times and still have her shallow moments, but she’s working on it.
